Can I access DOORs using VB.net?

I am using DOORs 9.2 and was wondering if I can access the DOORs database without having a client open. I know I can import and export data with DOORs open, but I need to possibly run a program that will import into, or export out of the DOORs database. Basically I want to take data out of and put data into DOOR's without having to do anything with DOOR's other than what I explained. I know the servers name. I know all the information within doors, for example the modules name, column names, etc. that I need to know to pull the information, but I don't want to open DOORs at all. Please help me with this. Thanks.

Short answer: no. The DOORS client IS DOORS. The DOORS server is nothing more than a file server, the protocol between client and server is not published and might change any time. Therefore the only maintainable way to access DOORS data is to use the DOORS client and the only interface to the DOORS client is DXL. Therefore you are pretty right here.

We successfully demonstrated how you can start up the client or find a running client from c#. You can translate this 1:1 to VB.NET. See this post:

Hope that helps, Regards, Mathias
